Dylan Tyree is a cellist, composer, and conductor based in Denver, Colorado who is focused on showcasing different styles of music through concert programs to a wide range of audiences in a larger community.

 

As a cellist, Dylan regularly enjoys playing chamber music, recital repertoire, rock concerts, symphonic music, and everything in between. Recognized as a soloist, Dylan has been invited by various ensembles to perform works including Korngold’s Cello Concerto, Schnittke’s Triple Concerto, Vivaldi’s Double Concerto in g minor for Two Cellos, and Herbert’s Cello Concerto

No. 2 in e minor to name a few. In the fall of 2022, Dylan premiered Eric Whitacre’s “The Sacred Veil” for cello soloist, orchestra, and mixed choir at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts with Eric Whitacre conducting. Most recently, Dylan having won the Lamont Solo Honors Competition, performed the Dvorak Cello Concerto in b minor with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and acclaimed conductor Brett Mitchell in the spring of 2023. As a chamber musician, Dylan has been mentored by members of the Cavani String Quartet and has worked with world renowned musicians from the Encore Chamber Music Festival, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and the Yellow Barn Young Artists Program. With his colleagues of the Rose Quintet, he was recently awarded first place in the Lamont Chamber Honors Competition in 2023.

 

Dylan regularly performs recitals and concerts in Colorado where he advocates pairing traditional repertoire in the classical music bubble with alternative works and genres outside that bubble. In 2020, Dylan co-founded the non-profit organization titled Classical Swing, an organization that promotes all styles of music, and equity in music by offering a variety of non-traditional programs to the public for free. 

 

Active as a composer/arranger, Dylan has received high recognition in various competitions including Michael Giacchino’s War for the Planet of the Apes Orchestration Competition in 2017 and the 2021 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards. In 2019, Dylan was commissioned by the director of the Denver School of the Arts to arrange the B side of The Beatles album Abbey Road for string orchestra, harp, and percussion which has been featured at the National Western Stock Show. He was awarded the “Outstanding Student in Composition” award from the Lamont School of Music in 2022. Dylan’s music has been commissioned and performed by members of the Yellow Barn Young Artists Program, Sunset Chamber Festival, and the Lamont School of Music. An advocate for writing new music for electric cello, Tyree was recently awarded a PinS grant from the University of Denver to compose and record a new solo suite for the instrument with live electronics. Most recently, Dylan’s duo for violin and cello “Chameleons” was premiered at Art Share L.A. in 2023.

 

Dylan has studied cello under Matthew Zalkind, Alice Yoo, and Evan Shelton; composition under Sean Friar, Stephen Coxe, and Leanna Kirchoff; and conducting with Enrique Lasansky and Lawrence Golan. Dylan is currently pursuing a B.Mus. in cello performance and composition at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.
